What Botox can treat
- Lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes
- A brow lift
- A gummy smile
- The jawline
- Underarm sweating
How Botox works
Botox is a purified protein, botulinum toxin. Small amounts are injected into chosen muscles, where it temporarily blocks the nerve signal that makes them contract. The muscle relaxes, so the skin over it creases less.
The effect is temporary: movement returns gradually as it wears off.
When results show and how long they last
The first effects usually start two to three days after treatment, and the full effect can take up to 14 days. Results usually last 3 to 6 months and vary from person to person.
What happens at your appointment
- Free consultation. Dr. Yara looks at how your face moves, asks about your health and medicines, and agrees the areas with you.
- Treatment. The injections take about 5 to 10 minutes, with a very fine needle.
- Aftercare. You leave with simple instructions and can go back to most daily activities.
Possible side effects
Side effects are uncommon and usually temporary:
- bruising, tenderness or a mild headache
- a temporary drooping eyelid, in less than 1% of treatments near the eye, which settles within weeks
- less commonly, facial weakness or asymmetry, or an allergic reaction
Occasionally Botox does not take effect, which is more likely after many previous treatments. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with myasthenia gravis.
