Lip filler or lip booster: the difference
| Lip filler | Lip booster | |
|---|---|---|
| Main aim | Shape and definition, and fullness where planned | Hydration and a natural pink tone |
| Adds size? | It can, as planned with you | No, that is not its aim |
| May suit you if | You want a clearer border, more balance or more fullness | Your lips look dry or pale and you want to keep their size |
How lip filler works
Most lip fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a gel that holds water. Small amounts are placed to shape the lips, define the border or add fullness where planned. Dr. Yara plans the amount with you so the result stays in proportion with your face.
What a lip booster is
A lip booster is a light injection that hydrates the lips. The aim is softer, hydrated lips with a natural pink tone, without changing their size.
What happens at your appointment
- Free consultation. Dr. Yara looks at your lips and face, asks about your health, your medicines and any history of cold sores, and recommends filler, a booster or neither.
- Your plan. She explains the product, the amount and the aftercare. You get the price at this stage.
- Treatment. The product is injected into the planned areas at the clinic.
- Follow-up. You leave with aftercare instructions and a follow-up plan.
When it settles and how long it lasts
Lips usually look swollen at first, and the result settles over the following days. How long it lasts depends on the product and on your body, so Dr. Yara tells you what to expect for the product she plans. Results vary from person to person.
Possible side effects
Like any injection, lip treatments carry risks. Dr. Yara goes through them with you before treatment.
- Common and short-lived: swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness.
- Possible: small lumps, or a cold sore flare if you get them, so mention this at your consultation.
- Rare but serious: filler can block a blood vessel. Contact the clinic straight away if you have severe pain, or the skin on or around your lips turns pale, dusky or blotchy.
- Rare: infection or an allergic reaction.
Before and after your session
Before: tell Dr. Yara about your medicines and supplements, especially blood thinners such as aspirin or ibuprofen, any history of cold sores, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
After: follow the aftercare Dr. Yara gives you. Contact the clinic if swelling gets worse instead of better, or you notice any of the warning signs above.
